Using PDF "Plan sheet overlays" On Your Projects

You already had the ability to store your plan sheets in the app for easy access, but NOW you finally have the ability to take individual sections of your plans and overlay them on the map to reference your plan sheets, layered directly underneath your alignment and dropped flags

 

 

What is this new add-on, and how does it help me?

We all know about the 100s- 1000s of plan sheet pages that you all, on jobsites are familiar with having to cycle through in order to reference and pinpoint where everything is on a project. So with every update and iteration of OnStation we strive to make that a more archaic duty and make your jobs easier and easier. That's where plan sheet overlays come into play!

  • Now you have the ability to take specific sections of your plans and place them directly on the map to correspond with the alignment and flag data provided by you and your team
  • Previously within the app, you would provide us with your pdf plans and cad files if available, then we would provide the alignments and stationing for you to view and interact with right on the project map. For some, that is all that's necessary and more than enough to get the job done, but for the those of you who want a bit more data displayed on the map. This feature is going to look like sorcery

Who can take advantage of this feature?

  • Any organization or OnStation user with an active license can utilize PDF overlays. 
  • This is NOT available to organizations or users that are in trial.

Is there anything i need to do, to activate this for my project?

ANSWER: YES

  • 1st:  if you are a manager within your respective organization and have the authority to confirm purchase, you will need to call us here at OnStation and let us know that you are interested in purchasing "PDF plan sheet overlays" 
  • 2nd: You will then need to specify which project you would like to apply these overlays to
  • 3rd: If your project has already been built you will need to do the following
    1. Access the management portal at portal.onstationapp.com
    2. Navigate to the project submissions tab

    3. Select "Submit project Update"

    4. Search for your project via the 5 digit project code OR the project name

    5. Select your desired project
    6. You will then be directed to the file upload page

    7. Click on browse files and select the PDF file you want to use as overlays (Make sure you click "upload" after selecting your files

    8. After doing so, in the "Additional notes" section. Go ahead and provide the page numbers of the specific plan sheets you want added as overlays! (So if you have a 500 page pdf file. In the notes you will want to say that " I want pages 1-8 provided as pdf plan overlays or 8-16 , and so on)

    9. Just remember that 8 is the allotted number for each package purchase. So if you want 16 pages added to your project, you will have to make 2 purchases
  • If you do not have a project built in OnStation, you can submit a project by following the steps in the article listed below.
    • Project Submission Process
      • When following the Project Submission Process you will first input all of your baseline project information, Then you will be taken to the file upload page. This is where you will make the request to add PDF plan sheet overlays to your project. In order to make that request, make sure you follow the steps numbered in the section right above starting from step 6
    • Go through the entire submission process, and then all that is left is to wait until your project is built. You will be notified by email when the project and you're pdf overlays are available for you to use in the app!

 

Once i activate, does it apply to all of my projects?

  • Quick answer: No
    • To elaborate, when you purchase the pdf plan sheet overlays. That package and the pages you select are only applied to 1 project
    • There is no mixing and matching unfortunately, so if you purchase the pdf overlays for project (x) you have to use up all or up to 8 of those plan sheets on project (x). You CANNOT use 4 on project (x) and then 4 on project (Y)
  • Important to note that there is no restriction on the amount of packages you can purchase. So you can purchase 1,000,000 if you desire but just remember that each purchase is assigned to a specific project in 8 sheet increments.

 


 

Is there an extra fee for this?

  • Yes there is an additional fee as this feature is NOT included in the baseline price of our Locate, Capture or Data packages.
