Linked Users & Toggling between Organizations

Its possible that you make work for one organization (company A) but that you're receiving your OnStation license through a different organization (Company B).  This article explains a bit more about that set up.

What is a Linked User and why do you even track this?

A Linked User is a user that is doing work for another company but doesn't work directly for that company.  In OnStation we call and show that as a "Linked" user and display linked users in the OnStation Portal with a image next to it.

We do this for security and compliance for us, the organization you work for and the organization providing a license.  It also allows each organization to grant and limit permissions as they deem appropriate for their company.

What Does that look like in the Portal?

Example Scenario Below.

  • SUPPORT  user works for ABC Corp.  Their user is set up under ABC Corporation.
  • Customer XYZ LLC says that SUPPORT at ABC CORP is doing consulting for them.  They grant that user a license.  To do so, they LINK the SUPPORT user account by going to TEAM - FIND EXISTING USER.

So what does that mean to the user in the App?

If you are one of these Linked Users, we give you the ability to say when you're doing work for the other organization that has granted you a license and toggle between that organization and your own.  You can do this via the following steps:

  1. Log into the OnStation App

  2. Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of your screen

  3. Under the Organization Section you will should see your PRIMARY organization listed with green ACTIVE next to it and, if Linked to one or more other Companies, those will be listed underneath that with the option to "MAKE ACTIVE"

  4. Tap on the "MAKE ACTIVE" next to the company you will be performing work

    1. Example screenshot below where in my case I see XYZ, I am working on a contract for them but I actually work for ABC Company Name

  5. When you tap on another organization to "MAKE ACTIVE" this it will advise that you are switching organizations.  You will want to tap "SWITCH" so that you can get the license assigned and permissions assigned to you from that other organization.
