View Meta Design Layers On Your Projects

Introducing interactive layers on your projects. You tap and they respond with pop up information detailing exactly what that layer represents

What are Meta Data Layers?

  • Quick answer: Meta Data layers consist of project line work, that when tapped on, will display a pop up window that showcases all of the information pertinent to that specific line you selected. ( Image below displays web version view : App.onstationapp.com)

    • Hopefully i didn't lose you. Let's break it down!
      • Now those of us who are familiar with OnStation know, Layers within the app can be made up of individual or multiple lines, to represent many elements of a project, such as (Examples listed below).
        • Electrical wires
        • Drainage
        •  Roadways
        • Striping
          • Note: This is all dependent on the project files you provide to us

What kind of files do i need to submit to activate these on my project?

  • In order to apply meta data layers with the information you see provided in the screenshot below, we do request that you submit these layer file types that typically contain all the information our engineering team needs to make this feature come to life in the app
    • DWG's
    • DGN's
    • DXF's

How do I add these layers to a NEW or Existing project?

  • Easily, that's how! All you have to do is go through the project submission process in the portal. See this article here to give a full breakdown of project submissions -
    ( https://help.onstationapp.com/knowledge/project-submissions )
    • For NEW projects
      • Go to portal.onstationapp.com & login to your account
      • On the left hand side of your screen navigate to the "Project Submissions" tab
        Screenshot (696)
      • Select the "Submit new project" button highlighted in green

        Screenshot (696
      • Input all of your project details in order to advance to the project file upload page
      • And here is where the Meta Data Layer magic happens. In the "Project layers section. Add all of your layer files ( Dwg's, Dgn's & Dxf's)

        Screenshot (699)
      • Hit submit & continue inputting the remainder of project information as well as share preferences to complete the process.

That is it!! Once you have completed the process for a new project submission with your layer files included, Meta Data Layers will automatically be activated by our engineering team as long as those files included layer information.

    • Now to add Meta Data Layers to an existing project. It is just as easy but a slightly different process
      • Go to portal.onstationapp.com & login to your account
      • On the left hand side of your screen navigate to the "Project Submissions" tab

        Screenshot (696)
      • Select "Submit project update"

        Screenshot (69
      • Since this is an update you will not have to re-enter all of the same information that you had to for new submissions. You can simply go directly to the "project file upload" page and upload all of your project layer files
      • If there are only specific lines or layers that you want to contain Meta data pop ups, please specify that in the note/ comment section so our engineering team can build your project accordingly and not waste any time re configuring for any layers that you don't necessarily need to see pop up information for.

How long does it take for projects to be built & Layers to be updated?

  • This can vary slightly based on the overall size of your project and the number of files but as a rule of thumb
    • For NEW projects:  2 to 3 weeks
    • For existing project updates: 1 to 2 Weeks

How do i access these layers when on a project?

  • Fortunately you will notice a trend when it comes to new and old features in OnStation. We make them easily accessible! (Images below showcase the mobile app view)
    • Open a project

      1000002429
    • Tap the Layers menu icon

      1000002430
    • Select the Layers that you wish to view (White means "off" Green means "ON")

      1000002431
    • Zoom in on the specific layer you would like to view information for

      1000002432
    • Tap that line & a pop up window will come up on the screen displaying all the relevant information for that line and layer

Is there a limit to the amount of layers i can apply meta data?

  • As this feature is included with your license purchase there is no limit on the amount of layers you can upload. However,  we do ask that you consider the workload of the engineering team. So if you do not need all of the layers in the files you provided to contain Meta data, please note that in the submission process so we can move steadily through the process of building your projects and others, as quickly as possible.

Is my project eligible for Meta Data Layers?

  • Short answer.... YES! All projects will be eligible. From February 2025, moving forward, all submitted projects with the appropriate layer files included will automatically have these meta data layers without you having to request them.
  • Any projects submitted and created prior to February of 2025 will need to go through the "project update" process in order to request and submit any files that you would like to display Meta Data

There you have it! Project Meta Data Layers!! Make sure you give us your feedback so we can continue to improve and make OnStation your go to tool on all of your projects!
